Why Change Your Squarespace Subscription?
You may need to upgrade or downgrade your plan for several reasons:
Upgrading to a higher plan if you’re launching an eCommerce store and need advanced features.
Downgrading if you no longer need the premium features of a higher-tier plan.
Switching to annual billing to save up to 30% on your subscription.
Whatever the case, Squarespace makes it easy to adjust your plan. Let’s go step by step.
Step-by-Step Guide to Changing Your Subscription Plan
Step 1: Open Billing Settings
Log in to your Squarespace dashboard.
Click on the gear icon (⚙️) in the left-hand menu to open Settings.
Scroll down and select Billing (this is typically third from the bottom).
✅ Pro Tip: If Squarespace changes its menu layout in the future, use this shortcut:
Press the forward slash key ( / ) on your keyboard.
Type Subscriptions into the search bar.
Click on Billing to jump straight to your subscription settings.
Step 2: Locate Your Website Subscription
In the Billing section, click on Subscriptions.
You’ll see a list of your active subscriptions (for example, your website plan and any email campaigns you’ve signed up for).
Look for Website Subscription—this is the plan tied to your Squarespace website.
Step 3: Choose a New Plan
Click on the Change button next to your current plan.
You’ll see the available subscription plans:
Personal – Ideal for small, simple websites.
Business – A great fit for most websites that don’t require full eCommerce features.
Commerce Basic & Advanced – Necessary for online stores that sell products.
Select the plan that best fits your needs.
Step 4: Select Monthly or Annual Billing
Squarespace offers two billing cycles:
Monthly Billing – More flexible, but costs more over time.
Annual Billing – Saves up to 30% compared to paying monthly.
If you’re planning to stick with Squarespace for a while, I highly recommend the annual plan to get the best value.
Step 5: Confirm Payment
After selecting your new plan, enter or verify your credit card information.
Click Confirm Payment to finalize the subscription change.
That’s it! Your Squarespace plan has been successfully upgraded or downgraded.
What Happens After Changing Your Plan?
If you upgrade: The new features will be available immediately, and you’ll be charged the difference.
If you downgrade: You’ll still have access to your current plan until the next billing cycle, after which the lower plan will take effect.
If switching to annual billing: You’ll be charged upfront but save money over time.
