If you need to upload a file to your Squarespace website and make it available for visitors to download, you might be wondering where to find that option. Squarespace doesn’t have a dedicated "File Upload" button in its main menu, but there are a few easy ways to do it—whether you want to add a downloadable button, a text link, or even a navigation menu link.

Why Upload Files to Squarespace?
You might need to upload a file for several reasons:
Offering a PDF guide, eBook, or checklist for download.
Providing event flyers, brochures, or forms for visitors.
Sharing menu files, pricing sheets, or proposals.
Squarespace allows you to upload and link to files like PDFs, Word docs, JPEGs, and more. Now, let’s go over the easiest ways to do it.
Method 1: Upload a File Using a Button Block
One of the easiest ways to add a downloadable file is by using a Button Block.
Step 1: Add a Button Block
Navigate to the page editor in Squarespace.
Click Edit and find the section where you want the file download link.
Click Add Block and select Button.
Step 2: Link the Button to a File
Click the button and then the pencil to edit the text and rename it (e.g., Download Now).
Click Attach Link and choose File from the menu.
Click Upload File and select the file from your computer.
Make sure Open in a New Tab is checked.
Click Save to apply the changes.
Now, when someone clicks the button, the file will open in a new tab for them to download.
Method 2: Upload a File Using a Text Link
If you prefer to add a downloadable file within text, follow these steps:
Step 1: Add a Text Block
In the page editor, click Add Block and choose Text.
Type a sentence like:
Click here to download your file.
Step 2: Create a Hyperlink to the File
Highlight the words Click here (or any text you want to use).
Click the Link icon in the toolbar.
Select File and upload your file or if it’s already been uploaded then just select it from the list of uploaded files.
Click Save.
Now, the text link will open the file when clicked, just like the button method.
Method 3: Upload a File in the Navigation Menu
You can also add a file download link in your website’s navigation menu. This works well for things like brochures, schedules, or restaurant menus.
Step 1: Add a Navigation Link
In the Squarespace menu on the left side of the screen, go to Website > Pages.
Click the + beside where it says Main Navigation and scroll all the way to the bottom and select Link.
Give the link a title and then select File and upload your file or if it’s already been uploaded then just select it from the list of uploaded files.
Click Save.
Now, the link will appear in your main menu, and visitors can download the file directly from your navigation.
Testing Your Download Links
Once you’ve added your file links, always test them by:
✔ Clicking the button or link to ensure the file opens in a new tab.
✔ Checking on both desktop and mobile to confirm the experience is smooth.
✔ Making sure your file name is clear so users know what they’re downloading.
