How to Add & Style a Testimonial Section in Squarespace

One of the most powerful ways to build trust with potential clients is by showcasing real feedback from happy customers. That’s why I include a testimonial section on almost every website I build. Testimonials act as social proof, making your business look more credible and reliable.

If you’re using Squarespace and haven’t yet added testimonials to your site, this tutorial will walk you through how to create a beautiful testimonial section using Squarespace’s built-in features.

Where Should You Place Your Testimonial Section?

Testimonials are important, but placement matters, too. You don’t want them buried at the bottom of your site where no one will see them. Ideally, a testimonial section should be placed:

Below the fold – Somewhere after the hero section on the homepage
Near a service section – If you provide a service, place testimonials nearby
On a dedicated testimonials page – If you have lots of reviews, a full page works well

For this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to add a testimonial section to the homepage in the third section, which is a great spot for visibility.

Step 1: Adding a Testimonial Section

  1. Open the Squarespace editor and navigate to the page where you want to add testimonials.

  2. Click Add Section and scroll to find the Testimonials Layout.

  3. Choose a List Section option (it will have a small info icon in the top right corner).

Squarespace offers different styles of testimonial layouts, but I recommend choosing one that includes both text and an image for added credibility.

Step 2: Editing the Testimonial Content

Once you've added the section, you'll notice that the testimonials are not individual blocks. Instead, they are part of a list section, meaning you’ll need to edit them in the section editor rather than as separate content blocks.

  1. Click Edit Content inside the testimonial section.

  2. You can change:

    • Title: Add a headline like "What Our Customers Are Saying".

    • Text: Copy and paste your actual customer reviews into the testimonial body.

    • Customer Name: Display the reviewer’s name for authenticity.

    • Star Rating: You can manually add star icons to mimic review ratings.

Step 3: Adding Star Ratings (Optional but Eye-Catching!)

To visually enhance testimonials, you can add star ratings beside each review.

On Mac:

  1. Press the Globe key on your keyboard twice to open the Emoji & Symbols panel.

  2. Navigate to Bullets & Stars and select a star emoji (⭐).

  3. Click the star five times to create a five-star rating before the review text.

On Windows:
If you don’t have an easy way to insert emojis, you can:
Copy & paste a five-star rating from another source
Send yourself an email with the stars and paste them into Squarespace

Once added, the stars will visually enhance your testimonials, making them more eye-catching.

Step 4: Styling Your Testimonial Section

Squarespace allows for various design customizations to make your testimonials look great.

Adjusting the Card Layout & Arrows

  1. Click Edit Content > Design.

  2. Move arrow controls from the bottom to the sides for easier navigation.

  3. Enable "Show Adjacent Slides" to indicate that there are more testimonials to scroll through.

Making Testimonials Uniform in Size

If some testimonials are longer than others, the cards will appear uneven. To fix this:

  1. Go to Edit Content > Design > Size & Spacing.

  2. Under Positioning, select Stretch to make all testimonial cards the same height.

Changing Background & Text Colors

If you want the testimonials to stand out:

  1. Click Edit Section > Colors.

  2. Select a light or dark background that contrasts well with your text.

  3. To adjust text colors, go to Site Styles > Colors and modify the title, description, and arrows.

Final Touches & Previewing the Section

After making these changes, save your edits and preview the section in full screen. You should now have a visually appealing, well-structured testimonial section that builds credibility with site visitors.

Final Thoughts

Adding a testimonial section in Squarespace is a simple yet powerful way to increase trust and credibility for your business.

Place testimonials in a high-visibility area.
Use stars or bold text to make them stand out.
Ensure all cards are uniform in size for a clean look.
Customize colors and layouts to match your website’s design.
