Why This Matters

Search engines rely heavily on SEO titles and meta descriptions to determine what your website pages are about. And alt text? It helps with accessibility and gives your images a chance to rank in Google Images. Squarespace’s new AI helps generate these pieces of content quickly—but it still gives you control to fine-tune them.

How to Use Squarespace AI for SEO Titles and Meta Descriptions

Step 1: Go to SEO Appearance
There are two ways to get here:

  • Go to Settings > Marketing > SEO Appearance, or

  • Just press the forward slash key (/) on your keyboard and search “SEO”.

From there, you’ll land on a page showing how many pages are missing metadata and how many images are missing alt text.

Step 2: Click “Improve with AI”
This scans your entire site and automatically suggests SEO titles and meta descriptions for your pages. You’ll see a preview of what each page might look like in search results.

You can:

  • Edit the title and description manually

  • Regenerate if you don’t like what it comes up with

  • Save and Continue once you’re happy

💡 Pro Tip: AI is helpful, but it’s not perfect. Make sure to proofread and personalize each title/description to ensure it reflects your brand and includes relevant keywords.

How to Use Squarespace AI to Add Alt Text to Images

After handling your page metadata, Squarespace lets you move on to alt text for images.

You’ll see a grid of your site’s images, each with an AI-generated alt text suggestion. This is important not just for SEO, but for accessibility—visually impaired visitors use screen readers to understand images through this text.

You can:

  • Accept the generated alt text

  • Edit it to add SEO keywords or better descriptions

  • Regenerate if you want to see a different version

Once you're satisfied, click Save to apply all your alt text changes at once. No more hunting down every image individually—everything is handled in one place.

Final Thoughts

Squarespace’s AI SEO tool doesn’t replace your creativity or knowledge of your business—but it does give you a great place to start and speeds up the process dramatically.

Highlights:
✅ Centralized SEO management
✅ Smart starting points for titles, descriptions, and alt text
✅ Huge time-saver for larger sites
✅ Accessible interface with easy editing and regenerating
